Il lessico della critica musicale italiana

The corpus of the musical theory and the one of lexicography of modern age form not only the row material of this research, but represent also its main scientific basis. The research program plans a systematic sorting of the material which has never been worked out in Italy. With the help of historical dictionaries of Italian language (Tommaseo, Battaglia) the corpus offers basic tools which allow to define headwords, to focalize their conceptual content and to reconstruct their efficacy in the history of the Italian language.

The present research project will complete a long experience of teamwork, which has been based on the cooperation of more than twenty musicologists and linguists from six universities and some conservatories. So far MURST has sponsored the following projects: "Lessico della critica musicale italiana" (1988-1989, 1991-1992), "Lingua della critica musicale italiana" (1993-1995), "Tecnicismi della lingua musicale italiana" (1997).
